Maura Cheeks is a writer and editor living in Brooklyn. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, The Atlantic, Tin House, Lenny Letter, and others. Her nonfiction story "Center Court" won honorable mention in the 2015 Annual Writer's Digest Competition. In 2018 she was selected to attend Tin House's Winter Workshop and was one of seven people selected to attend Jamel Brinkley's Tin House Craft Intensive. In 2019 she was selected for the Masthead Reporting Residency for The Atlantics’s first residency program.

Cheeks graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a certificate in publishing from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She also holds her MBA from NYU where she conducted a study on the psychological effects of race and gender on black women in the workplace.
